Washington: Seven special flights will be operated from Saturday to repatriate Indian nationals stranded in the US amid restrictions imposed on international travel to prevent the spread of the corona virus global epidemic. The Government of India on Monday had announced to launch a phased plan to bring its citizens stranded abroad from May 7.
India’s Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday that Air India will operate 64 flights between May 7 and May 13 to bring back around 15,000 Indian nationals stranded abroad amid the Covid-19 lockdown. India will launch the largest ever ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ to bring back stranded Indians abroad.
The embassy here said in an advisory issued on Wednesday night that Air India plans to operate seven flights from the US to India for the return of Indian nationals from May 9. The embassy said, “Since the number of seats on the aircraft is limited, priority will be given to those in greater need of return due to medical emergencies or family mourning, students, pregnant women, the elderly or those whose visa period has expired and They will be selected through electronic draw.
The fares of these aircraft will be more than one lakh rupees for economy class, more than two lakh rupees for business class and more than four lakh rupees for first class passengers. According to media consultation, all passengers must undergo medical examination before boarding the aircraft and only passengers with no symptoms will be allowed to travel.
On reaching India, all passengers will be given medical examination and they will have to download the Arogya Setu App and register on it. It states that all travelers will inevitably have to stay in separate centers for 14 days upon reaching India. Covid-19 will be examined after 14 days and further action will be taken accordingly.
