First Unified Geologic Map of Moon Released, It will help in future Human Mission

The American Geological Survey (USGS) astrologologist has prepared and released the Unified Geologic Map of the Moon in collaboration with the space agency NASA (NASA) and the Lunar Planetary Institute. This map has been prepared on the basis of photographs sent from satellites sent to orbit the moon. It is believed that this map will help a lot in the human mission to be sent to the Moon in the future. It is being described as a strong geological blueprint of the surface of the moon.

Prepared at a scale of 1:50 lakh

This is the first time that the Earth’s satellite has been classified equally by making a map of the entire surface of the moon. This digital map is showing the geology of the moon in an unbelievable way on a scale of 1:50 lakh. This means that if a distance is shown in one unit on the map then its actual distance on the moon is 50 Will be lakh units. This digital map is available online. It is believed that this map will help the international scientific community, teachers and the public at large. Astronaut Jim Reilly, a former NASA astronaut and current USGS director, said that people have always been excited to learn more about the moon. It is good to see that the USGS has created a source that can go a long way in planning future missions to be sent to NASA on the moon.

Mixing old and new figures

Scientists have taken the help of Apollo-era Regional Maps of 6 Opole round to create this new digital map. The map will help in Scientific Studies

USGS geologist Cory Fortejo said that the map was ready after a decade-long project. He said that this digital map provides important information for new scientific studies by linking the search of specific places with the rest of the moon’s surface. Elevation data for the equatorial region of the Moon have been obtained from stereo observations. The data was collected from the terrain camera present at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) ‘s recently sent Selenological and Engineering Explorator (SELENE) mission. The topography of the moon’s northern and southern poles has been prepared based on data from NASA’s Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter.

China is also making Geological Map of the Moon

Apart from the USGS, China is also preparing a geological map of the moon. The map of China is being prepared on a scale of 1:25 lakh. In 2017, Ouyang Jiyuan, the chief scientist of China’s Lunar exploration program, had reported in 2017 that five universities and research institutes set the standard for digital mapping and drawing the geological structure of the moon. The length of this map will be 4.36 meters and width 2.2 meters. The drawing of this map was prepared by 2018 and is to be released this year. This map will also provide information on geology, structure and types of rocks. Also, it will also give information about the development of the moon. Apart from this, it will also provide information about geographical breakage, the size of the moon and the structure of its craters.
