Surgical Attacks on Terror Launch Platforms Across LoC
Surgical strikes were carried out for the first time by the Army of India on the middle night of September 28 and 29, 2016 on terrorist launch platforms through the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan. The strikes were a great success as they destroyed seven platforms of terror launch in an operation of almost five hours. According to PM Modi, the mission was completely indigenous and the low-orbit satellite was in an orbit 300 kilometers above the earth when it was shot down by the missile. A ballistic missile defense interceptor (BMD) developed by DRDO was used to activate an Indian orbital target satellite in low Earth orbit (LEO) in a “Hit to Kill” mode. The interceptor missile was a three-stage missile with two solid rocket propellers.
