The Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pulkama Kashmir, which killed 40 soldiers, has provoked strong reactions from the world community. The only institution that shone in its silence until now was the Security Council of the United Nations. However, today the UNSC issued a strongly worded statement against the heinous act of terrorism against India.

The UNSC in its statement condemned the terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 40 Indian soldiers and mentioned Jaish-e-Mohammad by name, for taking responsibility for the attack.
In the statement, the UN Security Council reiterated that terrorism in all its forms is the greatest threat to international peace and that the perpetrators, organizers and financiers of terrorism must be brought to justice.
The UNSC also “urged all states” in accordance with its obligation under International Law and relevant Security Council resolutions to “actively cooperate with the Government of India and all other relevant authorities in this regard”.
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin, tweeted that this is a “statement with many new features” and, therefore, took longer than expected. He tweeted that the UNSC statement was “better late than never”.
The UNSC issued a statement firmly and indirectly, it seems to have arrested Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism and China for protecting Mazhoor Azhar. However, what remains to be seen if any action is taken in this regard by the two neighboring states of India.

India has been trying to alienate Pakistan diplomatically in the world community. After the Pulwama terrorist attack, India took a series of measures to ensure that it hits Pakistan diplomatically and financially. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said yesterday that India would make sure that no water under the Indus Water Treaty that must be used by India goes to Pakistan.
After the Pulwama attack, Prime Minister Modi presided over a CCS meeting with senior security officials and his cabinet. The meeting concluded by offering the Armed Forces a free rein to demand revenge in the place and time of their election. He also agreed to mount an insurmountable diplomatic offense by speaking to representatives of 25 countries, to the ambassadors of the Arab nations and withdrawing the status of Most Preferred Nation (MFN) of Pakistan.
