India’s indigenous vaccine developed for immunity to Covid-19, Covaxin has been found to be capable of neutralizing 617 variants of the deadly virus. Dr. Anthony Fauchi, the White House’s chief medical adviser and America’s top epidemiologist, said this here. Fauchi gave this information to reporters in a conference call on Tuesday.
He said, “This is something where we are still getting data every day.” But the most recent figures include blood serums of Covid-19 patients and those who have been given the Covaxin vaccine used in India. It has been found to neutralize 617 variants. ”
“So, despite the difficult situation we are seeing in India, vaccination can be very repulsive against it,” Fauchi said.
The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Covaxin works by teaching the immune system to make antibodies against the SARS-COV-2 coronavirus. These antibodies bind to viral proteins such as purified spike proteins that spread on its surface.
On January 3, the emergency use of Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech in partnership with the National Institute of Virology and the Indian Council of Medical Research, was approved. The test results later showed that the vaccine was up to 78 percent effective.
