Washington: US President Donald Trump issued an emergency declaration before the newly elected President Joe Biden’s January 20 swearing-in ceremony and during the period amid growing concerns from local and federal officials over fears of violence. Following this announcement, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Federal Emergency Management Agency got permission to coordinate with local authorities as needed. Trump’s announcement comes at a time when Trump’s pro-mob crowd attacked the Capitol (US Parliament House) five days ago.

The Swearing-in Ceremony is under the Cloud of Crisis

The attack was made when Parliament formally began counting Electoral College votes to authenticate Trump’s defeat. Five people were killed in that violence. Local police and federal investigating officers have also expressed concern over the violence of Trump supporters in the capital. Now, the swearing-in ceremony of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on January 20 is under a cloud of crisis.

Earlier, Mayor of the District of Columbia, Muriel Bauger, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan urged people to stay away from the swearing-in program due to the violence and the Kovid-19 epidemic last week. Trump’s emergency declaration took effect from Monday, which will remain in force until January 24.

According to the White House, the emergency declaration also provides appropriate assistance for necessary emergency measures. Under this, measures will be taken to save lives and protect property and public health and safety. Under this, FEMA is specifically authorized to provide necessary facilities to mitigate the effects of an emergency.
