Delhi and its adjoining states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan have lost about Rs 27,000 crore worth of business in the last more than a month due to the ongoing ‘Kisan movement’ in and around Delhi. The traders body has given information about this.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said that farmers have been agitating against the new agricultural laws for more than a month on the Delhi border. Due to this, roads connecting Delhi to many states are closed.
National President of the Traders’ Body BC Bhartia and its National General Secretary Pravin Khandelwal said that the supply of goods coming from Punjab and Haryana to Delhi has made a big difference. The supply of various commodities from these two states has been affected. He said that work is being done to continue the supply of essential commodities uninterruptedly. For this, vehicles carrying goods from other states to Delhi have to travel to Delhi for a long time by alternative routes except highway.
The CAIT chief told the media that the supply of goods coming to Delhi from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and other states of the country has been adversely affected. He said that every day about 50 thousand trucks in Delhi bring goods from different states across the country. About 30 thousand trucks carry goods outside Delhi to other states.
Due to the peasant movement, not only the arrival of Delhi goods but also the movement of goods from Delhi to the whole country has been greatly affected. In this case, the sooner the solution can be reached through discussion between the government and farmer leaders, the better.
Meanwhile, leaders of the United Kisan Morcha have said that they will intensify their agitation if the government does not meet their demands during the next round of talks on 4 January. Senior farmer leader Darshan Pal also said that the boycott of goods and services of some industrial groups, including petrol pumps and shopping malls operated by them, will continue. He also warned that toll plazas on major highways would be targeted as part of the movement.
Talking about the forward strategy of the peasant movement, Chairman of the Revolutionary Farmers Union, Darshan Pal had said, “On January 23, we will march towards the houses of governors in various states and if there is no concrete solution in the meeting with the government So on January 26, ‘Tractor Farmers Parade’ will be held in Delhi. “
7 th talks between farmers and central government today
The demonstrating farmers and the central government will hold the seventh round of talks on Monday (January 4, 2020). So far, 6 rounds of talks to end the deadlock have failed. After the sixth round of meeting, two out of four demands were agreed between the protesting farmers against the central government and the new farmer laws . However, the farmers have claimed that they will not end the protest until their other two demands are met. Those are two demands – repealing new agricultural laws and enacting laws on MSPs.
