New Delhi: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a suggestion letter to revisit the ban on offer of discounts offered by broadcasters on channel groups after the new regulatory framework for cable and broadcasting service is implemented. Trai on Friday criticized the broadcasters, saying that there is no restriction on offering discounts to the group as compared to the price of different channels and it is being misused by giving huge discounts to the group.

TRAI said in a statement, “Under the new regulatory framework, the fee announced by the broadcasters shows that the exemption on group of channels (bouquet) is up to 70 per cent of the total of the charges of the individual channels. This shows that the channels With no restriction on the discount offer for the group, the broadcaster charges misleading charges for different channels which affects consumers’ choice of different channels. “
