Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Bhutan on a two-day visit on Saturday morning. This is the Prime Minister’s second visit to Bhutan and the first since he became Prime Minister again. Prime Minister of Bhutan Lotte Tshering welcomed Modi at the airport. On arrival here, he was given the Salute Guard. During this visit, there will be extensive discussion on topics related to common interest including Indo-Bhutan relations between the two countries.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ravish Kumar tweeted, “With extraordinary warmth and goodwill, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Loti Sherring and other ministers welcomed the Prime Minister.” Later, the Prime Minister left for the capital Thimphu.

Ravish Kumar tweeted, “People carrying Indian tricolor and Bhutan flags to welcome the Prime Minister were standing in queues on the way from Paro to the capital Thimphu.”
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will meet King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and fourth King of Bhutan Jigme Sigye Wangchuk. He will also be meeting with his Bhutanese counterpart Dr. Lotte Tshering. Modi will also address the students of the prestigious ‘Royal University’ of Bhutan in this visit.

Earlier, PM Modi said on Friday that his visit to Bhutan will further boost the friendship between the two countries to stand the test of time and strengthen it for a prosperous future. The Prime Minister said that at the beginning of the current term of his government, this visit shows how much importance India attaches to relations with ‘our trusted friend and neighbor’ Bhutan.
