During the hearing on the disputed land in Ayodhya in the Supreme Court, the lawyer appearing for Ram Lalla Virajman said that the Muslims offered prayers at the disputed site in Ayodhya. This does not mean that they have authority over it. However, the reality is that many figures of deities have been found at the disputed site.
C.S. Vaidyanathan told the Constitutional Bench of the five-member Supreme Court- “Because namaz Offered is done in the streets, it does not mean that they have authority over it.”
From a five-member constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, on behalf of Ram Lalla Virajman, senior advocate CS Vaidyanathan read out excerpts from the court-appointed commissioner’s report to inspect the disputed site in support of his arguments.
Other members of the Constitution Bench include Justice SA Bobde, Justice Dhananjay Y Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice S Abdul Nazir.
Vaidyanathan from the constitution bench said that the commissioner of the court had inspected the disputed site on April 16, 1950 and described in his report the presence of pillars bearing the figure of Lord Shiva there.
Vaidyanathan said that the figures of the deities are found not on the pillars of the mosque but on the pillars of the temples. He also submitted to the bench a 1950 inspection report along with a description of the figures etched on the pillars.
He said that these facts show that it was religiously a sacred place for Hindus. Vaidyanathan also handed over to the Peetha an album of photographs of the Devas within the structure and said that mosques do not have such pictures.
The apex court is currently hearing appeals filed against the Allahabad High Court’s September 2010 verdict on the ownership of disputed 2.77 acres of disputed land in Ayodhya.
