The Samsung Galaxy S10 can be seen all over the surface, but what is below that enigmatic exterior? Pretty much, apparently. iFixit has teardown the entire S10 family, and it’s clear that Samsung has filled every phone to the gills. In particular, cooling is everywhere. The back cover, screen and wireless charging pads are covered with graphite, while the promoted copper heat tube is much larger: it is closer to that on the Galaxy Note 9 than on the cooling it saw on the S9 . The iFixit team believes that this might be necessary to prevent reverse wireless charging from cooking the phone.
The dissection also shows the integrated fingerprint ultrasonic fingerprint reader, although it could be very well integrated for DIY repair enthusiasts when it is likely that they will have to replace the main screen at the same time. And no matter how smart the drill screen is, it’s relatively simple below.
Not surprisingly, the S10 is not what I would call an easily repairable phone. In addition to that screen, you will find a difficult battery to remove and a USB-C port that is no longer modular. However, if that does not rub you in the wrong way, you may appreciate the large amount of engineering involved in fitting everything into such a small space.
