Stop Freaking out over Smartphone Radiations FFS

The radiations of smartphones have been a favorite of conspiracy theorists, where they have tried for years to prove that smartphones are harmful to people and can affect users. Do not worry, kids, today we are going to discredit some myths that should give you some peace of mind.

Statista published a report recently showing the phones that emit the highest amounts of radiation, which has scared many users. According to the report, the Xiaomi Mi A1 (1.75 W / Kg), the OnePlus 5T (1.68 W / Kg) and the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 (1.58 W / Kg) are the leading smart phones emitting radiation. The Samsung Galaxy Note8 (0.17 W / Kg) claimed the place of the smartphone of lower radiation and, in general, Samsung was the company of smartphones with less radiation emissions, followed by LG and ZTE.

Let’s take a step back and understand what really needs to be understood. The radiation of a phone can be known by checking its SAR values (specific absorption rates), which are usually mentioned in the retail table. The SAR figures are represented in watts per kilogram and simply represent the speed at which the human body it absorbs these radio waves. The SAR measures the transmission capacity of a telephone when communicating with mobile telephone towers.

So, for all practical purposes, these are not the kind of radiation one has to worry about. Do not confuse this with the radiation you’ve seen in the movies that are going to mutate it. And anyway, each smart phone must go through a specific series of tests by the local authorities in their country, and only when they are certified, they will be allowed to sell them. So your government cares a lot about you, even when you do not like them.

India has an allowed limit of 1.6 W / Kg, which means that almost all smartphones on the list are already “safe to use”. Secondly, these figures are different from those published in the retail boxes in India, so there is a difference in the reports between the Indian authorities and this new Statista report.

And let’s be honest, even if these were the kind of harmful radiation in a harmful amount, how many of us will abandon our phones? Like a millennium that has never been a distance from my arm since I have it, I’m sure I’d prefer to endure radiation rather than give up my phone. And suppose that even if you stopped charging a phone all the time, there are still thousands in your neighborhood who will be using telephones along with the towers of your service provider’s network.

This also shows the issue of digital well-being and how we should be less dependent and reliable on our phones. I know it’s impossible to live without a phone, but sometimes, you need to try to stay disconnected for a while. Immerse yourself in your environment, take a deep breath and enjoy your surroundings. The real world is beautiful too.
