Some very interesting observations have been derived from this report: engineers have finally outperformed MBAs in India!
This report has been prepared after surveying 5 lakh students in 29 states of India and 7 territories of the Union. More than 120 employers were also surveyed.
India Skills 2018: Engineers more employees than MBA
According to the report’s findings, engineers in India have improved their educational standards and, for the first time, have outperformed MBAs in terms of employability.
This means that an engineer in India is more likely to get a job, compared to an MBA.
57% of all engineers in their first year of university were employed, representing 5% more than last year. While the employability of the MBA has been reduced by 3%.
The report said: “It seems that with the exponential increase in the number of MBA colleges, the quality of talent is diminishing.”
The employability of graduates in pharmacy (BPharma) has also decreased.
Keep in mind that the employability of the students of IIT, IIM, NIT and other first level institutions have not been counted.
Almost half of all India is usable
According to the report, 47% of all the Indians surveyed are employable at this time. This is 3-4% more compared to last year. This means that almost half of the Indian population can get a job at this time, with their existing skills.
At the same time, employability also increased 13% in the last year. Even the data from the Organization of Employee Pension Funds (EPFO) supports this claim, since 8 million new jobs were created between September 2017 and September 2018.
Where is the majority of the employable population?
According to the India Skills report, the majority of the employable population in India resides in Andhra Pradesh, followed by Delhi, Gujarat and Karnataka, Kerala.
Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh were ranked at the bottom of the list of the top 10.
In the cities, Bengaluru was the number 1 city in employability, followed by Chennai, Indore and Lucknow. New Delhi is ranked # 8, while Pune is at # 9.
Almost 70% of respondents believe that automation will affect their jobs.
