Ganga Activist GD Agarwal Dies After 111 Days Of Fasting

GD Agarwal, a former professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur and a man who dedicated his life to saving the Ganga River, died today. Agarwal was fasting until death during the last 111 days.

GD Agarwal sat on his fast on June 22 to protest the government’s alleged inaction in taking measures to ensure that the Ganga is free of pollution and flows freely.

GD Agarwal died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Rishikesh, where he was admitted by state police last night.


GD Agarwal died due to a heart attack, said AIIMS media coordinator Rishikesh.
