Sonia Gandhi to Chair 19 Opposition Parties’ meet Today, Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP not Invited
New Delhi: Congress party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi has sent invitations to 19 like-minded parties, in which leaders of about 15 parties will participate. According to sources, the BSP will not attend today’s meeting. BSP is angry with the party MLA going to Congress in Rajasthan and accuses Congress of horse-trading. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party has not been invited according to the sources.
Sharad Pawar, Mamta Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, Farooq Abdulla will be present in today’s meeting. Today’s meeting has been called by Congress in an attempt to unite the opposition. All the issues including Pegasus and inflation will be discussed in the meeting. This meeting has been called at 4.30 pm.
Sources say that Sonia Gandhi is trying to surround the government with the opposition parties on the major issues facing the country and this virtual meeting has been called under this effort. The opposition parties are trying to unite at the national level to take on the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to present a tough challenge from the opposition in the next Lok Sabha elections.
The recently concluded Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed opposition unity against the government on the issues of Pegasus espionage controversy, farmers’ agitation, and inflation. During this, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi appeared to be the focal point of the entire exercise of opposition unity. Several opposition leaders including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar have been invited for the digital meeting with Sonia Gandhi.
