Liquor will be Cheaper in Delhi Again, Government Withdraws Corona Tax
New Delhi: The Delhi government has decided to withdraw the 70% ‘special corona fee’ imposed on the maximum retail price (MRP) of all categories of liquor from 10 June 2020. The Delhi government started the third phase of lockdown on May 4. With this, 150 government liquor contracts were allowed to be opened. The next day, it decided to impose a 70 percent Special Corona fee on the maximum retail price (MRP) of liquor.
In fact, Arvind Kejriwal, during a press conference on Sunday, announced the removal of 70 percent special corona tax on alcohol. This decision will be effective from 10 June 2020. During this, he said that all restaurants, shopping malls, and places of worship will open inside Delhi from Monday, but social distancing will have to be followed during this time. Kejriwal said that hotels and banquette halls will remain closed in the national capital, yet it has not been allowed to open.
CM Arvind Kejriwal said that last week we had asked the people of Delhi whether Delhi’s hospitals should be opened for all the states? About 90 percent of the people say that as long as there is corona then the hospitals in Delhi should be reserved for the people of Delhi only. Kejriwal said that the borders of Delhi will be opened from tomorrow. Kejriwal said that this decision has been taken as per the suggestion of the committee and people in the cabinet meeting.
There are 863 liquor shops in Delhi, out of which 475 shops are located in four government corporations – Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC) and Delhi Consumer Cooperative Wholesale Store. (DCCWS), while 389 shops are owned by private individuals. Out of these 389 private shops, about 150 are located in shopping malls.
