There are only two Blockbusters left in the world, and one is Closing

And then there was one. A Blockbuster video rental store located in a suburb of Perth, Australia, announced that it will definitely close at the end of the month, according to local newspaper The Eastern Reporter. It was the last remaining Blockbuster on the continent. Once you stop offering rentals at the end of March, there will be only one Blockbuster left in the world. The final store is located in Bend, Oregon.

The last Blockbuster of Australia, located in the small suburb of Morley, was operated by Lyn and John Borszeky. The owners placed signs indicating that the store would close last Friday, which resulted in an avalanche of support driven by nostalgia. While they resisted all they could, the arrival of Netflix and other streaming services in the Australian market made this end inevitable. Everything from movies to posters will be sold in the store, and the sale from the close of business will begin on March 8.

Blockbuster has already completely disappeared from the United Kingdom, and the last giant artifact of the rental era is the final store located in Oregon. As of last year, there were two stores that were still operating in Alaska, and they received a lot of attention when the host of last week tonight, John Oliver, donated the suspension used by Russell Crowe in Cinderella Man to the store in an attempt to increase interest. The effort failed and stores closed last August.
