Man who spent 7 hrs on Netflix admitted to De-addiction Centre
Bengaluru: Although streaming websites such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar allow hours of binge eating, a case has arisen in Bengaluru, supposedly the first of its kind in the country, where a man has been admitted to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans) for its addiction to Netflix, reports said Tuesday.
According to The Hindu, the 26-year-old family admitted him to Nimhans for the maladaptive program. The man was unemployed, but every time his family asked him about the job search, he locked himself up and watched Netflix. The fact that his friends were well in life also caused his addiction. According to the report, the man has admitted that he spent seven hours a day watching Netflix.
He is now in treatment at the Service’s clinic for the healthy use of technology in Nimhans. The doctors who treated him said they were investigating psychological problems and helping him get a job. The man, who has not been named, admitted that watching Netflix disconnected him from reality and made him feel good. Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, who is treating young people, said: “The best advice is to avoid the use of technology if it becomes a coping mechanism.”
