According to the latest reports, Oath, the subsidiary of telecommunications giant Verizon, which operates Yahoo, announced the final closure of Yahoo Messenger. The Yahoo spokesperson said:
Yahoo Messenger will no longer be compatible after July 17, 2018. Until then, you can continue to use the service normally. After July 17, you will no longer be able to access your chats and the service will no longer work.
Current users who still cling to the old message service will be redirected to the new Squirrel group message application. Users will have six months to download their chat history! For more than a month, Yahoo has been testing the beta version of the Squirrel application. It will be open to the public once Yahoo Messenger is closed. However, those looking to try the Squirrel application at this time may request beta access.
