Get Ready To Say Goodbye To Yahoo Messenger On 17 July

Let’s take a look in those nostalgic days when Yahoo Instant Messenger was a great thing. Do you remember those funky emojis? Oh yeah! How can you forget those elegant but cute avatars that you could change instantly? Well, get ready to say goodbye to Yahoo Messenger on July 17.

According to the latest reports, Oath, the subsidiary of telecommunications giant Verizon, which operates Yahoo, announced the final closure of Yahoo Messenger. The Yahoo spokesperson said:

Yahoo Messenger will no longer be compatible after July 17, 2018. Until then, you can continue to use the service normally. After July 17, you will no longer be able to access your chats and the service will no longer work.

Current users who still cling to the old message service will be redirected to the new Squirrel group message application. Users will have six months to download their chat history! For more than a month, Yahoo has been testing the beta version of the Squirrel application. It will be open to the public once Yahoo Messenger is closed. However, those looking to try the Squirrel application at this time may request beta access.

Yahoo on its official website said:

We know that we have many loyal followers who have used Yahoo Messenger since its inception as one of the first chat applications of its kind. As the communications landscape continues to change, we are focusing on creating and introducing new and exciting communication tools that better fit consumer needs.

Yahoo Messenger was launched in 1998 and was a great success among users! However, over time, the application seemed to lose its charm as the competition intensified. Over the years, the application generated many updates to keep users connected. From the redesign of the application to the appearance of new functions, Yahoo tried to survive on the messaging platform, but could not do it. The users did not find the messenger fascinating enough and eventually changed to other applications. Anyway, it’s time to say goodbye to our messaging application, Yahoo Messenger!

You will always be our first favorite messaging application.
