Modi Govt’s Surgical Strike on Corruption: 12 Income Tax Department Officers Fired for Corruption and Sexual Harassment Allegation
The government has sacked 12 senior officials of the Income Tax Department from service for corruption and professional misconduct. These include the officers of the commissioner and the joint commissioner level. Sources told this information. There is a serious complaint of forced recovery and corruption from a businessman accused of helping self-styled godman Chandraswami against a sacked joint commissioner involved in this list. Sources said that there is also an IRS officer in the post of Commissioner (Appeal) posted in Noida. There are allegations of sexual harassment of two female IRS officers of the commissioner level.

Another IRS official had earned movable and immovable property worth Rs 3.17 crore in the name of himself and his family members. This property was allegedly acquired by misusing the post and in a corrupt and illegal manner.This officer has been instructed to take retirement early on. The anti-corruption branch of CBI against a commissioner of Income Tax Department had filed a case of excess income and suspended him from service in October 2009. He has also asked the government to take mandatory retirement.
Another officer who was involved in corruption and extortion and passed many wrong orders. These orders were later overturned by the Appellate Authority. He has also been sacked from service. Another officer of the commissioner level was accused of seeking a bribe of Rs 50 lakh for the relief of a businessman in the case of a mask company. In addition, he was accused of misusing the post and collecting movable / immovable property. He has also been forcibly retired.
