Google tests Shoppable Ads in Image Searches

Google is borrowing some indications from Instagram and Pinterest to encourage more purchases in their search results. The Internet giant is testing ads that can be purchased within image searches: find an image of your ideal desktop and you can touch a shopping tag button to see basic details, as well as a link to buy it. Fortunately, this only applies to sponsored ads, so you do not have to worry about the ads that cover the images you want to see.

Currently, the test is only visible to a “small percentage” of users looking for certain broader topics, such as home offices and abstract art. Whether it expands or not will depend on the initial results. That said, it’s hard to see Google reject the affordable images. If you’re already using a general image search to find product ideas, you’re much more likely to touch an ad and make a purchase.
