‘Experiment Looks Successful’, ‘Work From Home’ may be permanent soon in Indian IT sector companies

The Corona virus has caused uproar all over the world. In view of this epidemic, the Indian government has declared a lockdown in the country till 3 May. Due to this, employees of most companies are working from home. The IT sector already has the rule of Work from Home but only for emergency. Except the IT or information technology sector, the other sectors have been affected due to the lockdown. The IT sector is also affected but less than others.

It is evident that in such a situation many people have changed their routine. There is a lot of change in daily functioning. The marathon meetings that employees used to have, have now turned into video calls. It seems that due to Corona, this habit of Work From Home is going to change forever in IT companies. Permanent work from Home may be a reality in the coming few years.

In this sequence, India’s largest IT company Tata Consultancy Services is considering reducing the time spent in the office of its employees. In a conference call on Thursday, TCS chief operating officer N Ganapathi Subramaniam said that the company believes that no more than 25% of our employees are required in our office to make all 100% productive. Stating that not every employee is required to be present in the office at all times, he said, “I think that 25% of the staff time is sufficient for our offices.”

Prior to Corona, IT companies offered employees the option to work from home for a limited time only. But all companies had to change their policies overnight to prevent the spread of Kovid-19.

Over the last one month, more than 80 percent of the country’s four million IT employees have been working from home, although companies are facing some difficulty in operating. Therefore, the management is considering exempting its expensive offices from within the next few years to allow most employees to work from home. However, employees working from home will not have to work from home in their own 100 percent of the time and will require offices, but the number of employees will be less and they will come to offices for a shorter period of time.

TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan told Economic Times that they are “working to implement the 25/25 model by 2025 and this is the way we build our future capacity and future infrastructure.”

It is known to all that TCS tops the Indian IT industry. Once this company started working on the strategy of Work from Home, then other companies would also start following it. In fact, many other companies such as Wipro are also considering the idea. Wipro’s chief HR officer Saurabh Govil says that “a lot of things are coming to light. Do we need employees who work – do we need to call back the entire workforce, or do we have to give concession to allow us to work from home? ”

These companies have been among the ones running corporate offices in the country. Once work from home becomes a habit, the prices of corporate offices will also come down. It will also make IT companies efficient, as the cost of real estate and office operations, the total expenditure for most IT companies can be saved to approx.

Never before has the idea of working from home for a long time been taken seriously as such an emergency had never happened before. But after more than a month of lockdown, most companies opted for work from home. Most of the companies felt that even from work to Home they can operate the company smoothly.
