Film: Mission Mangal
Director: Jagan Shakti
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Nitya Menon, Sharman Joshi and Sanjay Kapoor
Star: 4/5
In 2014, the New York Times wrote an article, which also included a cartoon. The title of this article was India’s budget for the Mars mission. The cartoon drew a strong eye on India. Indian citizens and the media then responded. Through the film Mission Mangal, the producers narrated it and the audience is told about the life of the scientists who made India proud. Mission Mangal is quite fictional, but it impresses the audience a lot because it tells about the power of dreams and flight.
Mission Mangal is based on a project Orbitr Mars mission ISRO. It tells about the team of scientists who want to complete this mission at the least cost. The story of the film is not as strong, but its execution and cast keep you connected with the film. In still a sense of patriotism in you. Many times even surprise you. It uses home science to save the team and explain the complex issues of space science, which helps to connect the story to the audience at large. There are many songs in the story, each song depicts the character who is fighting in his life.
Akshay Kumar Khiladi to Patriot
On social issues and patriotic themes, Akshay Kumar chooses the script very carefully, which is also successful. This is completely different from Khiladi Kumar’s 90s films. However, Mission Mangal has many such dialogues and lines that land in your heart. He has given a good place to his co-stars in the film. They do not overlap with any character.
Vidya Balan Fit in Every Character
Vidya Balan plays Tara Shinde in the film, who believes in Supreme Power. However, her son makes fun of her. Her performance indicated her conviction of the characters she played. She brings a maternal touch to her character, which often reminds us of the punchline of her previous film – “Main Kari Kakti hai”.
Sonakshi Did not Show Much Effect
Akshay Kumar and Vidya Platonic chemistry is quite beautiful. Dilip Tahil is playing the role of a NASA expert, who joins the team of these scientists after a project fails. Vikram Gokhale has played a very small but important role and it was nice to see him on screen. Sonakshi Sinha does not leave much impact, while Kirti Kulhari and Nitya Menon have done justice with their performance. Taapsee Pannu got a chance to see very little, which is a bit disappointing. However she is not disappointed with her character and her honesty will touch your heart. Parmeshwar Naidu and H.G. in the film Sharman Joshi Dattatraya playing the character of Anant Iyer leaves his mark and is seen taking some responsibility with Akshay Kumar on his shoulders.
Big Actors in Many Supporting Characters
Sanjay Kapoor plays Tara Shinde’s husband in the film and is successful in entertaining people. He appears to play the role of a typical husband who always blames his wife. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Purab Kohli play a supporting role in the film. The last 15 minutes of the film hold the audience firmly in place. The stellar performance of Starcast keeps you in theaters seat.
Average work on VFX
The film’s VFX is average, but the Mars Orbiter mission was not completed without much budget. Its makers have given full credit of the film to the real team of ISRO. Mission Mars gives us hope. If you dream, it gives you the will to do it.
