Why Chandrayaan-2 will Only Land on the South pole of the Moon? Know all the Facts Here
Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) today launched Chandrayaan-2 for research on the moon. ISRO launched it from 44 meters long and weighing about 640 tonnes Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle – Mark III (GSLV-MK III-M1). Under this lander Vikram and Rover will land on the moon after 48 days. It will do various research on the Moon’s South Pole.
This is India’s second moon mission. Under the Chandrayaan-2 mission, the research vehicle will land in that part of the moon, which has little research yet. According to the scientists, research on this southern pole will reveal how the origin and structure of the moon are formed. There are large and deep pit in this area. There is less research than the North Pole.
In the part of the South Pole there are chances of the existence of the early days of fossil of solar system. Chandrayaan-2 will also mapping the surface of the moon. It will also know about its elements. According to ISRO, it has strong potential for water on the southern pole.
Weight of Chandrayaan-2 is 3.8 ton
India’s total weight of Chandrayaan-2 is 3.8 tonnes (3,850 kg). An orbiter, a lander and a rover under Chandrayaan-2 are also going to the moon. Their names are Chandrayaan-2 orbiter, Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover. Chandrayaan-2 has been launched on July 22nd. But its landers on the moon’s surface will land Vikrama on September 7, 2019.
Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter
Chandrayaan-2 orbiter weighs 2,379 kilograms. It is 3.2 * 5.8 * 2.1 meters wide Its mission life is 1 year old. This orbiter will play an important role in the entire Chandrayaan-2 mission. Through this, it will be possible to connect between Vikram Lander, who descends on the surface of the Moon and ISRO scientists on earth. It will be present on the orbit of the moon. This will be sent to landowners on earth on the basis of Lander Vikram and Rover Pragyan on the surface of the Moon.
Orbiter will research 8 devices
- Near Chandrayaan-2 orbiter, there will be 8 devices for research on the moon from the orbit of the moon. Among them Terrain Mapping Camera-2 is to create the digital model of the moon.
- Chandrayaan-2 Large Area Soft X-ray Spectrometer (Class) in it to examine the elements on the surface of the moon.
- Solar X-ray monitor to provide solar X-ray spectrum input to the class.
- It has imaging IR spectrometer for detecting the presence of water on the moon and researching the mineral present there.
- Dual-frequency synthetic aperture radar in the mapping of the poles of the Moon and for frozen ice beneath the surface and surface.
- For the research on the upper surface of the moon, it has Chandrayaan Atomosferic Composition Explorer II.
- It will be used for mapping the high restopography via orbiter high resolution camera.
- Dual frequency radio device to check the lower layer of the moon’s atmosphere.
Vikram will land between two big pits on the moon
Chandrayaan-2 mission, Lander Vikram and Rover Pragyan will land on the moon surface on 2 large pits on the moon . Lander Vikrama’s weight is 1,471 kg. It has been named after the father of the Indian Space Program Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. It will gain strength by 650 watt energy. It is 2.54 * 2 * 1.2 meters long. During landing on the moon, it will work for one day of the moon continuously. The moon day is equal to 14 days of earth. It will land between the two large pits of the moon, Maggins C and Simplius N.
4 Instruments will Stay near Vikram:
Lander Vikram along with three important instruments will be sent to research on the moon. A special instrument has been set up to measure and research the seismic activity on the moon. Apart from this, it is also a special tool for fine-tuning temperature changes on the moon. The third tool in this is the Langmoor Probe. It will research the upper layer of the moon’s atmosphere and the surface of the moon. Vikram will research his mapping and distance through his fourth equipment laser retroflator.
The 6-tire Pragnya Rover
there along with lander Vikrama, who will land on the moon under special Chandrayaan-2, Pragyan Rover will also descend there. Pragyan Rover is a kind of robotic vehicle. Who will walk on the surface of the moon and research there. Its weight is 27 kilograms. It is 0.9 * 0.75 * 0.85 meters long. There are six tires in it, which will be able to do various research while walking on the rough surface of the moon. It can travel up to 500 meters on the surface of the moon by 1 centimeter per second. It will get its energy from the sun. Also, this lander will be in touch with Vikram.
There are two special tools near Pragyan
Robotics Research Station (Rover) Pragyan. Rover Pragya will research the Alpha Particle X-ray spectrometer to get information on the construction of atmospheric elements on the surface of the moon near the landing site. In addition, through the laser induced breakdown spectroscope, Pragnya will also research the elements on the surface.
