WhatsApp Launches “Checkpoint Tipline” Feature to Fight Fake News ahead of Elections
The usage of whatsapp in India is constantly increasing. Over the past few days, whatsapp has been in the midst of criticisms of Fake News, messages and photos. Many times, incidents like Mob Lynching in India have also emerged about rumored messages. After this the government has asked whatsapp to take stern action. Whatsapp has launched a new feature by taking a big step in the Lok Sabha elections. The name of this feature is the Checkpoint Tipline. This user will be able to confirm the truth about any message or information. Whatsapp has issued a statement and told about the features of this Tipline.
How will work: India will prepare a database of rumors spreading this Tipline launch from a skilling startup PROTO. This can be done for checkpoint information at the time of election. Checkpoint is a research project, which is being run with the help of whatsapp and with technical help.

According to the company, the users can submit a checkpoint tipline (+ 91-9643000888) to investigate any rumor or fake messages according to the company. Once the message receives the message from the user, Verification Center of the PROTO will investigate it and after the investigation it will tell the user whether the information given in the message is correct or not. This information will be classified into correct, false, misleading, disputed or out-of-scope.
They will be able to investigate: Verification Center can be searched from photographs and video links to text. Apart from English, information gathered in Hindi, Telugu, Bengali and Malayalam languages can be examined in the center. Facebook has also taken action against them on the following Monday, by deleting hundreds of pages of fake news and misleading information related to different parties.
