The supreme party of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu, who is trying to unite the opposition parties to face the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections next year, met on Thursday with the president of the Congress Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi. Speaking to the media after the meeting, the two leaders said their main goal is to defeat the BJP in next year’s general election.
“We had a very good meeting, the essential thing was that we have to defend democracy and the future of the country. So we are joining together to work, all the opposition forces must unite, “said Rahul Gandhi after meeting Chandrababu Naidu.
“We have to defend the democracy of this country, the institutions and the future of this country. “We will talk about the present and we will look to the future, we will not talk about the past,” said Rahul Gandhi at the press conference.
“We will meet on a common platform and we will strategize,” he said. Answering a question, he said: “You are interested in the candidates, we are interested in the nation.”
Naidu’s meeting with Gandhi comes amid conversations to share seats between the two parties for the December 7 Assembly elections in Telangana.
Earlier in the day, Naidu met here with the PCN chief, Sharad Pawar, and the president of the National Conference, Farooq Abdullah.
Naidu “coincidentally” also met with the senior leader of Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, and briefly discussed the need to bring together all the political parties that do not belong to the BJP.
