Virat Kohli becomes first captain to score 1000+ Test Runs in three Consecutive Years

India captain Virat Kohli scored a significant milestone on Day 2 of the first test match against the Windies at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium (SCA) in Rajkot.

Virat Kohli became the only Indian cricketer to score more than 1000 races in the test cricket for the third year in a row. Kohli (139), 29, who also scored his 24th test ton in the match, had nine games and 17 innings to cross the 1000 career mark in 2018. He has scored an impressive average of just over 59 in this calendar year with the highest score of 153.

Virat Kohli is also the only hitter so far to score more than 1000 runs this calendar year. The England test captain, Joe Root, is second on the list with 719 runs in 10 games, while the South African Aiden Markram is third with 660 runs in nine games.

The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) took note of Kohli’s achievement and tweeted: “He becomes the only Indian player to score more than 1,000 test races in three consecutive calendar years #KingKohli.

Here are some interesting statistics from Virat Kohli’s call:

0 – No batter has reached 3,000 test races in India faster than Virat Kohli. It took 53 tickets to get there, as did Cheteshwar Pujara, with whom he has the record of being the fastest in 3,000 test races in India.

1 – Virat Kohli became the first captain to score more than 1000 tests in three consecutive years. He is also the first Indian to score more than 1,000 tests in three consecutive years.

1 – Kohli became the first player to cross 1,000 test races in 2018. In general, he also has the most international cricket races in the calendar year. He has 1,913 runs in 25 games, 350 runs more than Joe Root, who is second and has played 7 more games than Kohli.

2 – Kohli is the second fastest in 24 centuries of testing. He arrived there in 123 innings, only Don Bradman (66) came faster.

2 – Among the Indian captains, only MS Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin have scored more races in international cricket than Virat Kohli. He overtook Sourav Ganguly and is now in third place with 7,692 runs in 110 games.

Matthew Hayden has the world record with more than 1000 tests in five consecutive years, while Steve Smith has done it in four. Kohli joins Marcus Trescothick (2003-05), Brian Lara (2003-05) and Kevin Pietersen (2006-08) as hitters who have done so three years in a row.

9 – Kohli is currently in ninth place on the list of most international captain’s cricket races.

749 – Virat Kohli has scored 749 runs in his last five innings in India. No player has scored more races in five consecutive innings in India. His scores in the last five test entries in India say 104 *, 213, 243, 50 and 139. He broke Virender Sehwag’s record of 714 in the process.
